My remarkable day

September 17th 2016 was a very sad day for my family because my 9 years old brother was hospitalized urgently for severe stomach pains. The doctor said that it was probably an appendicitis that had to be operated quickly, because he could die. That night my brother Daniel was hospitalized and only my dad could accompany him. In the night my mother cried disconsolately, because she imagined horrible things. The worst of all was that many times I called my dad and he did not answer. Then that made me more nervous.

On the morning of September 18th I got up early to go to the hospital with my sister Javiera and my mother. All the people that day were celebrating the national holiday and I was in a hospital crying for my brother. When it was 4 in the afternoon the doctor let us know how my brother was. Thank God he was fine. With my family we could not contain our joy and we began to cry, but this time for happiness.

No doubt those celebrations were not what I expected, but despite having been a very sad time in my life it became the most extraordinary day, since my younger brother was in good health.

The best way I had to celebrate that day was having a big earthquake.

My Role model

Hello classmates! Today I am going to talk about my favorite teacher. If there's someone I admire, is teacher Faride Zerán. She's the most ethical journalist I've ever met and motivated me to be a good student.

Faride graduated as a journalist at the University of Chile and in her student years became an allendista. From 1971 and until the military coup of 1973, headed by General Augusto Pinochet, worked in the magazine Chile Hoy, that directed the Marxist theorist Marta Harnecker.
In 2007 Faride received the Nacional Journalism Award. This award is very important in Chile, and is only given to the most outstanding journalists. In addition Faride is the founder of the Institute of Communication and Image of the University of Chile, and served as director between 2003 and 2010.
Faride Zerán is my favorite teacher because she taught me the ethical limits that a journalist has. This is essential because journalism must be worked responsibly so it does not cause harm to people. She is my role model because I want to become someday a journalist as good as she.

My favorite band
Hi classmates!

Nirvana was an American grunge band from Aberdeen, Washington, United States composed of the vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in 1987. Nirvana is my favorite band since I have 15 years old. In the beginning I liked because some friends listening to him, but with the time I was interested in his music because of the content of their letters. Also I felt an attraction by the vocalist of the band, Kurt Cobain, because it was a beautiful man.

However, the most important reason that I like Nirvana is because it reminds me my adolescence. Their songs make me remember my greatest suffering of love, as well as my joys.

My favorite song of the band is called "Come As You Are” I love the pace of that song because it is very sticky. But if I had to choose a song makes me feel sadness would choose “The Man Who Sold The World”.

On 5 April 1994 Kurt Cobain died from a shot, what caused the breakdown of the band. This event causes me sadness, because I would like to have had the opportunity to go to a concert of the band, however, his music still in my memory all days.

March Against Police Violence

My favorite picture is called “March Against Police Violence”. This was taken by John J. Kim (a professional photographer who works for The Chicago Tribune) since November 25, 2015. In addition, the photograph was awarded with the 3rd prize Of category: Contemporary Issues of the World Press Photo 2016.

The photograph shows Lamon Reccord watching a policeman during a march against racial violence. The march was unleashed after the murder of Laquan McDonald (a 17 year old boy) who was killed by a Chicago city policeman. The youth was shot 16 times by the officer, which caused the annoyance of the black population of the United States, who protested several times throughout that year.

I really like this photograph, because it exposes the abuse of power executed by the police in ethnic minorities. It reminds me of the case of Chile, where the students and Mapuches are beaten by the police without any compassion.

The photograph shows the spectator an important reflection of the contemporary times. It shows the violence that the world currently has.

Christmas

Christmas is celebrated on December 25th and is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

The origins may vary according to the holiday. The date of Jesus Christ birth is not recorded in the bible, December 25th has been significant in ancient people celebrating during the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. This celebration has the purpose to allow conversion of pagan people.

I like Christmas because I can spend time with my family. That day I get up early to help my mother to cook. In the afternoon we manage to go to church and participate of the Eucharist. In the evening we all gather at the table to eat the Christmas dinner, after eating we gather next to the Christmas tree to open the presents.

I like everything that actually happens at Christmas: the dinner, go to church and open presents. But the thing that I like the most  is that I spend time with my beloved ones.

For me, Christmas is more than a day to receive presents. The real sense is to share and spread love. That is the best gift you can give to someone you love.

My phone

My phone is very important to me. It is my favorite piece of technology, because it helps me be connected with my family and friends. My cell phone is a iPhone 5S, 16 GB silver color. I got my phone working on the supermarket and the money from my parents. I bought this phone is August 2016 and  I love!.

The phone is very easy to use. I use my cell phone to listen to music, check Facebook, Instragram, Snapchat, WhatsApp and Mail. for that reason that I use every day.

I like my cell phone  because it has a good camera and is fast, but I like because I worked for it. I feel my life would not be the same  without  my phone because it is necessary to be  comunicated with the people I love.

My dream was to be a journalist

When I was a child I wanted to become a dancer, but with the passage of time I understood that my dream was to be a journalist.

In the school I liked learning language and history, also I loved writing essays, poems and letters. It was there that I discovered that my passion was writing.

When I was15 years old I decided to study journalism and I never had another option. I worked hard at school to get to this university, get good grades and studied hard for PSU.

In 2015 I entered this university, the first semester I was difficult to adjust, but in the second semester I adapted. when I finish studying I want to work in a radio.

Now I feel very happy with my studies, because I discovered that I was born for this.

I love my job!
